Michigan Schools vs. All Other Schools

 

What it is: Research and development (R&D) dollars spent by field and reported to the National Science Foundation in 2014.

Why it matters: Targeted R&D spending by universities contributes to the economy. Research at universities helps to spur innovation in many fields. Michigan's schools are stronger than the U.S. average in engineering, psychology and social sciences, and non-science research fields such as business and marketing.
